Description

Rutherford Cross has been retained by Hunter Boots Ltd, to identify a high calibre Accountant to undertake a key finance role within the UK business. Reporting directly to the Group Financial Controller, the UK Finance Manager will be charged with building strong working relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, leading the transactional accounting team, and supporting month-end, quarterly forecasting, and budgeting processes. This is a multi-faceted role covering areas including business partnering, monthly reporting, continuous improvement, and operational management.

 

Headquartered in Edinburgh with offices in London, New York and Dusseldorf, Hunter builds on its heritage of almost 160 years, creating footwear and outerwear to protect from weather and perform across all terrains. Hunter products are currently made by supplier factories located in China, Germany, Indonesia, Portugal, Turkey and the UK, with the UK business being the ‘hub’ supporting the global operations. This is an exciting time for the company as it continues to diversify its product offering and move more into the direct consumer retail space, creating a strong platform for growth both in the UK and Internationally.

 

Job Description

 

Reporting to the Group Financial Controller, the position incorporates a blend of team, financial and operational management. This will be a varied and fast moving role that requires an individual with drive and ambition, with the capacity to grow with the role as the business evolves.

 

  • Day-to-day management and development of a finance team of 4
  • Ensure a culture of commercial awareness is promoted and maintained across the company through effective business partnering
  • Month-end reporting processes, detailed analysis and reconciliations
  • Managing and reconciling complex intercompany processes
  • Preparation of VAT returns and managing the outsourced payroll process
  • Implementing ‘best in practice’ financial processes and procedures appropriate to the needs of a changing business
  • Involvement in operational matters including key supplier arrangements, order management, and shipping
  • Building strong working relationships with external advisors
  • Assisting with year-end accounts production and liaison with auditors when required
  • Ensuring the ERP system is utilised effectively and internal controls are maintained
  • Involvement in a number of ongoing and future projects
  • Delivering a continuous improvement approach in order to maximise operational efficiency

Key Candidate Requirements

 

  • Qualified Accountant with a minimum of 2 years PQE
  • Confident communicator with excellent inter-personal skills
  • Strong analytical skills and technical ability
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Commercial thinking, drive, and professionalism
  • First class problem solving and decision making
  • Able to perform in a dynamic working environment
  • Self-motivated and capable of developing in the current role over time

Experience of FMCG or Retail although useful, is not a specific criterion. However, it is likely the individual will come from a commercial background where they have ideally managed a team and gained a strong initial grounding in financial and operational management.
