Description

This is an exciting opportunity within the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences at the University of Glasgow. The role holder will take leadership in a new service centre of excellence to create and manage a large team. Responsibilities include the management of all of the transaction processing activities within the centre, ensuring the processes and policies are fully documented. They will lead an end to end review of existing processes, before launching the design and deployment of new processes using proven methodologies.

The remit of this role includes supporting the senior finance analysts in ensuring that the management and financial reporting structure within the College is effective, efficient and capable of providing the management information required for analysis and decision making. Ideally coming from a large business or corporate shared services background, the role holder will be part of a finance team responsible for embedding KPI reporting in line with the University Strategy.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Head of Finance, the main duties and responsibilities fall into four main areas of focus:

Process Efficiency and Effectiveness

  • Lead the implementation of a finance service centre
  • Take responsibility for transaction processing
  • Support the Head of Finance in undertaking a formal change management process
  • Manage the centre team to ensure that processes are efficiently performed

 

Financial and Management Reporting

  • Support senior finance analysts to ensure that the College utilises the University accounting structure
  • Ensure standardised, consistent reporting and information provision in line with University policies
  • Establish a single, correct data source is established within the College
  • Play a key role within the senior College finance team in the month end financial processing

 

Strategic Financial Management and Business Development

  • Support the Head of Finance in the development of specific business cases
  • Work with the School and Research Institute to develop proposals
  • Lead in the development of business models

 

Finance Team

  • Manage the finance service centre team of initially up to 12 members of staff
  • Take a leading role in growing the team to full capacity
  • Ensure that all aspects of people management, development and review are in place
  • Deputise for the Head of Finance when appropriate

 

The Candidate

 

  • Qualified accountant with appropriate post qualification experience
  • Financial and accounting experience at managerial level within a large, complex organisation
  • Comprehensive knowledge of business processes, management information systems and value drivers of management accounting
  • Experience with a variety of financial and analytical tools within a complex environment
  • Knowledge and ability to structure and develop plans to exploit business opportunities
  • Ability to manage and motivate a large team within a complex environment
  • Ability to convey complex financial concepts for a non-financial audience
  • Demonstrable track record of successful change management and process improvement using proven methodologies
  • Experience of working with and influencing senior management
  • Experience of budgeting and strategic planning within a complex environment
  • Experience of managing transactional process teams and in particular P2P processing
