Rutherford Cross is delighted to be retained by J&J Denholm to recruit a Group Financial Controller.

 

J&J Denholm is a family owned business which was founded 150 years ago and now operates in four areas: shipping, logistics, seafoods and industrial services.  The Group generates over £220m of turnover per year.

 

The business is headquartered in Glasgow and has operations across this UK. J&J Denholm employee over 1,000 people.

 

The business is looking to secure a talented Group Financial Controller to work closely with the Group Finance Director in the Glasgow head office. It is envisaged that this role will grow over the next few years and therefore the business is looking for an individual with the ability and desire to take on this challenge.

 

The Group Financial Controller will take responsibility for the delivery of accurate and high-quality reporting and management information.

 

The main duties and responsibilities will involve:

 

  • Responsibility for the efficient staffing and operation of the J. & J. Denholm Finance Department
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of efficient and effective financial reporting and accounting systems throughout the Group, liaising with divisional accountants
  • Responsible for the timeous reporting of financial information (management and statutory) to the Group Finance Director.
  • Responsible for dealing with technical accounting matters as they arise
  • Liaison with Group auditors and other professional advisers as required
  • Monitoring and control of suitable treasury, forex and banking systems (as agreed with the Group Finance Director), in order to maximise efficient use of Group funds
  • Regular monitoring and analysis of subsidiary company performance against budget
  • Preparing the management and statutory accounts of the Group pension schemes
  • Assisting with the delivery of the Group’s internal audit programme
  • Supporting ad hoc commercial projects.

A summary of the key candidate requirements are as follows:

  • Educated to Degree level or equivalent
  • Qualified accountant with appropriate post-qualification experience
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills combined with business acumen, pragmatism and a good sense of diplomacy
  • Proven ability to build relationships at all levels
  • Highly developed oral, written and presentation skills
  • Motivated self-starter with a flexible working attitude
  • A strong team player, with a desire to make a significant contribution to the Finance Department
  • Excellent IT skills including MS office and a good working knowledge of accounting systems
  • Flexible approach to working hours in line with the needs of the business and happy to travel to other UK locations as required

A competitive salary of between £50,000- £60,000 (dependent on experience) is on offer with a fantastic pension scheme of 12.5% employer contribution plus additional benefits.
