Rutherford Cross has been retained by Hunter Boots Ltd, to identify a high calibre Accountant to undertake a key finance role within the UK business. The Financial Accounting Manager position represents a fantastic opportunity for a tenacious and robust individual with first class technical accounting capabilities coupled with the ability to interpret complex financial information. This is a hands-on finance role that requires an individual with focus, determination, and a keen intellect. The ability to build relationships with and influence internal stakeholders is an essential requirement, as is first class technical accounting skills.

 

Headquartered in Edinburgh with offices in London, New York and Dusseldorf, Hunter builds on its heritage of almost 160 years, creating footwear and outerwear to protect from weather and perform across all terrains. Hunter products are currently made by supplier factories located in China, Germany, Indonesia, Portugal, Turkey and the UK, with the UK business being the ‘hub’ supporting the global operations. This is an exciting time for the company as it continues to diversify its product offering and move more into the direct consumer retail space, creating a strong platform for growth both in the UK and Internationally.

 

Job Description

 

Reporting directly to the Group Financial Controller, the Financial Accounting Manager will be tasked with continual review and appraisal of the P&L and balance sheet, ensuring that the Group is always fully aware of its cash position. Rolling forecasts are completed on a quarterly basis and additionally the Financial Accounting Manager will constantly review and effectively challenge group forecasts. This is a critical requirement as the business grows, and in order to be successful the post holder must have the capacity to build strong working relationships with stakeholders in both the UK and US.

 

There will also be exposure to other areas of the finance function including management and statutory accounting, Treasury, and providing support to other members of the team. This will ensure that in addition to developing expertise in P&L and balance sheet control, there will be opportunities to develop a wider skill set and get involved in a variety of projects.

 

A strong track record of achievement both academically and professionally is preferred given the nature and requirements of this position. Commercial acumen and an understanding of key business drivers are also essential to be successful.

 

Key areas of focus will include:

 

  • P&L and balance sheet control, analysis and reconciliation
  • Financial analysis and interpretation of complex financial information
  • Liaison with key stakeholders in the group and manage the working capital requirements
  • Preparation of monthly treasury and compliance reporting packs
  • Cashflow forecasting and review on an ongoing basis
  • Preparing quarterly rolling reforecasts in conjunction with the Group Financial Controller
  • Assisting with year-end accounts production and liaison with auditors when required 

Key Candidate Requirements

 

  • Qualified Accountant with experience of working in a fast growing SME
  • Tenacious approach with the capacity to interpret complex financial information
  • Confident communicator with excellent inter-personal skills
  • Strong analytical skills and technical ability
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Commercial thinking, drive, and professionalism
  • First class problem solving and decision making
  • Able to perform in a dynamic working environment
  • Self-motivated and capable of developing in the current role over time

Experience of FMCG or Retail although useful, is not a specific criterion. However, it is likely the individual will have relevant industry experience gained in an SME environment.
