Rutherford Cross has been retained by Hunter Boots Ltd, to identify a high calibre Accountant to join the UK finance team based in Edinburgh. Job Description

 

The Financial Accountant will provide support to the Group Financial Controller and other senior member of the finance team. Areas of responsibility will include monthly reporting, forecasting, statutory and year-end accounting, and treasury management. There will also be opportunities to get involved in a variety of ongoing projects and interact with non-finance stakeholders throughout the business.

 

A strong track record of achievement both academically and professionally is preferred given the nature and requirements of this position. This is a hands-on finance role that requires an individual with commitment, drive, and commercial acumen.

 

Key areas of focus will include:

 

  • Assist with monthly management accounts including journal postings, accruals, cost of sales, cashflow, variance analysis, and associated commentary
  • Monthly reconciliation of the P&L and balance sheet
  • Assist with short term cash management and forecasting
  • Check and approve weekly cashflow reports
  • Provide financial information and analysis to internal stakeholders
  • Preparation of statutory accounts and compliance with relevant Accounting Standards
  • Year-end accounts production and liaise with auditors where necessary
  • Bring a continuous improvement approach to all areas of the finance function
  • Ensure appropriate system and internal controls are maintained
  • Preparation of compliance reports
  • Cost control and expense functions
  • Involvement in ongoing and future projects

Key Candidate Requirements

 

  • Qualified Accountant
  • The capacity to interpret complex financial information
  • Confident communicator with excellent inter-personal skills
  • Strong analytical skills and technical ability
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • First class problem solving and decision making
  • Able to perform in a dynamic working environment
  • Self-motivated and capable of developing in the current role over time

Experience of FMCG or Retail although useful, is not a specific criterion. However, it is likely the individual will have relevant industry experience gained in an SME environment.
