Description

Rutherford Cross has been retained by The Dalmahoy Hotel and Country Club (the Dalmahoy), to identify a high calibre qualified finance professional to undertake the role of Director of Finance.  The four star Dalmahoy is located seven miles from Edinburgh’s city centre and is situated in 1,000 acres of parkland.  It has two 18-hole golf courses with 500 members, state-of-the art leisure facilities, with 1,020 members, including a state-of-the-art gym, indoor swimming pool, sauna steam room and outdoor tennis courts.  It also has 215 rooms and suites, contemporary meeting and events spaces and a range of restaurants and bars.

The Dalmahoy is experiencing an exciting time of growth and change following its de-branding from Marriott Hotels Limited to a standalone hotel in 2016.  Having become an unbranded business, the need has arisen to appoint an experienced Director of Finance to operate at a tactical and strategic level, maximise the value of the business through the delivery of consistent growth and profitability with a pro-active appropriate approach to revenue generation, robust procedures, risk management and cost control measures.

The business generates revenues of c. £10m annually through guest accommodation, food and beverage, meetings and events, golf, leisure, and other commercial activities.  With a strategy in place to significantly grow profitability by driving revenue and generating operational efficiencies, this is an exciting time to join the company and play a key role in its future success as part of the hotel’s Executive Team.

The role of Director of Finance will encompass all areas of hotel strategy, revenue generation, financial management and control, commercial business partnering, and budgeting and forecasting.  Other areas of responsibility will include investment decision support, risk management, payroll, and managing third party relationships. This is a broad and ever evolving role that requires an individual with demonstrable leadership and influencing skills, who brings professionalism, drive and commitment to all aspects of their work.

A summary of the key candidate requirements are as follows:

  • Qualified accountant with a minimum of five years’ post qualification experience, ideally gained within the leisure sector.
  • Sound knowledge of relevant statutory and accounting regulations.
  • Able to demonstrate a strong track record of developing a business and appropriate commercial strategies.
  • Knowledge and experience of managing the full finance function, including staff.
  • Exceptional financial and commercial acumen.
  • Excellent communication skills across all levels.
  • Strong IT skills and the ability to stay ahead of technological improvements.

Remuneration

Salary:                                £50,000 - £65,000

Bonus:                               Up to 15% of basic salary based on business performance and personal KPOs

Pension:                             Member of The People’s Pension Scheme

Holidays:                          24 days upon commencement + Public Holidays, rising to 25 after 2 years then 26 after 5 years
