Rutherford Cross has been retained by The NWH Group (NWH), to identify a high calibre qualified finance professional to undertake the role of Group Accountant based in Dalkeith. NWH is a family-run business in Scotland, founded in 1967 operating in the construction industry supply chain and waste management to the retail and leisure industry. Serving the whole of Scotland over four sites, in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee and Midlothian, NWH provides various solutions including; Trade Waste collection, Skip Hire, Materials Recycling, Tipper Hire, Road Sweepers, Concrete, Aggregate Materials, gritting and winter maintenance services.

The Group Accountant position requires a professionally qualified accountant who may be looking to progress their career within a fast-paced SME environment. Reporting to the Finance Director, this is a hands-on finance role that requires an individual with focus, tenacity, and a keen intellect. The potential to manage a team of people is a key requirement, as is first class technical accounting and reporting skills. What is also critical is the capacity to build relationships with, and influence, key internal and external stakeholders.

As the group continues to experience significant growth, the role requires an individual who is flexible, robust, structured in their approach, and able to work on a variety of projects. Previous experience of working in a transaction-heavy business services group would certainly be advantageous given the nature and requirements of this position. Additionally, first class data analysis skills, commercial acumen, and an understanding of key business drivers are essential to be successful in the role.

A summary of the key candidate requirements are as follows:

  • Qualified Accountant (min 4-5 years PQE) holding an undergraduate finance or business degree
  • Experience gained within a fast paced, high volume environment with an appreciation for operating successfully in an industry with tight margins
  • Excellent IT skills including Advanced Excel and experience of utilising Accounting and MI systems
  • The capacity to interpret complex financial information including analysing large data sets and drawing meaningful conclusions
  • Strong analytical skills and technical ability
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • First class problem solving and decision making
  • Confident communicator at all levels with excellent inter-personal skills and gravitas
  • Leadership potential and mentor capabilities, coupled with the ability to harness the talent within the finance team
  • Self-motivated and capable of developing in the current role over time
