Rutherford Cross is delighted to be retained by SACRO to appoint a Finance Manager to be based in the Edinburgh office.

Overall Purpose of the Post

  • To develop and prepare financial information for the Board, Audit and Finance Committees, Chief Executive, Director of Corporate Services and other managers
  • To provide sound financial advice and support to Sacro management, in relation to financial procedures, best practice and decision-making
  • To assess and ensure the cost effectiveness of services provided by Sacro
  • To ensure adequate financial systems and controls are in place throughout the organisation

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the resources of Sacro are best deployed to achieve the organisation’s objectives, ensuring effective resource management and value for money
  • Develop robust financial procedures to ensure that Sacro has effective financial management, and that contractual arrangements are soundly based and monitored
  • Ensure that effective budgets are developed and adhered to such that Sacro operates on a sound financial footing
  • Ensure the accurate and timely production of Sacro statutory accounts
  • Ensure the accurate and timely production of monthly management accounts, and report and analyse variations from agreed budgets and ensure corrective action is implemented timeously
  • Advise Service Managers on the preparation of budgets, financial projections etc. for new and existing areas of business
  • Provide sound financial advice and support to Corporate Management Team and Service Managers on complex financial matters
  • Implementation of the internal audit service including liaison with the auditors and responsibility for implementing audit recommendations
  • Liaison with external auditors and Audit and Finance Committees, and key contact for the external audit of the annual accounts
  • Provide financial information for the purposes of funding applications, tenders, new business development and fundraising, ensuring the terms and conditions of grants are understood and complied with, grants are received and that appropriate information is provided to funders
  • Manage and develop the accounting systems and supervise the processing of the day to day financial information, including sales, purchases and nominal ledgers, treasury management, and that creditors are paid on time and debtors are managed and reviewed.
  • Ensure balance sheet reconciliations are completed on a regular basis
  • Provide guidance and ensure compliance to an auditable standard of accounting records to areas out with the National Office finance function.
  • Manage and provide support (including technical support) for finance staff including eight-weekly Support & Supervision meetings and annual Performance & Development Reviews
  • Provide training and induction for other members of staff as required
  • Assist with risk management and disaster recovery
  • Be responsible for all aspects of Sacro insurance
  • Undertake all financial aspects of The Sacro Trust
  • Maintain a high level of knowledge of accounting standards and requirements
  • Carry out all duties in accordance with Sacro policies and procedures.

Education and Experience Required

The postholder should be educated to degree level or equivalent, with a qualification in accountancy/finance. He/she should also have relevant experience in financial management, including liaison with managers and budget holders, and the ability to work closely with other staff on complex financial issues. Experience of managing and supervising a small team is essential.  He/she should have the ability to analyse, interpret and present financial information and experience of accounting / book-keeping software applications.  The postholder must have excellent Microsoft Office skills.
