Rutherford Cross is delighted to be working on a retained basis to appoint a Finance Manager for  expanding retail business, Wilson Imports, based on the outskirts of Glasgow.

Wilson Imports is a growing, dynamic entrepreneurial business run by Iain Wilson (Senior) and his son, Iain Wilson (Junior). The business has its Head Office in Hillington, just outside Glasgow, and has been operating successfully for 25 years.

 

Its core business is the design and sourcing of garments and footwear for a number of major retailers, notably Sports Direct, Asda, Decathlon and Family Dollar. In addition, the company has a number of brands, some under license, such as Everlast boxing goods and a number which it owns outright, including Monkey Genes and Punk Royal. The company has offices in China and Bangladesh and sales offices in London, Hong Kong and New York, along with headquarters in Glasgow.

Wilson Imports is currently diversifying into two key areas. Firstly, it is expanding sales to retailers in the US and Europe. Secondly, it has developed two new products, Sportential and Hexagol, both of which are in the early stages of launch but both of which have huge commercial potential.

Current turnover is c£60m with an EBITDA of c£2.5m. The plan for the business is to reach £100m turnover over the coming years.

The Finance Manager role, working closely with the CFO and Financial Controller, managing the finance team. The post-holder will take ownership of improving and maintaining financial controls. The role will stretch across the group of international businesses and responsibilities will include:

 

  • Preparing and interpreting monthly management information and accounts for group companies
  • Owning the month-end cycle, co-ordination with the rest of the accounts team and the logistics team
  • Managing day to day cash flow
  • Preparing VAT returns & compliance reporting
  • Preparing ad hoc reports for brands, customers and bank
  • Assisting the Financial Controller in the day to day management of our financial and ERP systems;
  • Preparing and posting of accounting journals in our financial ERP system (accruals/prepayments/etc) and review of debtors and creditors ledgers;
  • Providing company with up-to-date and accurate regulatory knowledge;
  • Balance sheet reconciliations;
  • Review of expense claims;
  • Assisting in the management and development of the accounting team

The Finance Manager position requires a professionally qualified accountant who possesses excellent track record of success within similar senior finance roles. It is likely that the individual has trained in a professional services firm, but has also operated within commercial environments.

The Finance Manager will have strong technical accounting skills, and the ability to implement robust financial controls. They will also take ownership of managing and motivating a small finance team.

A summary of the key candidate requirements are as follows:

  • CA or ACCA qualified
  • Sound technical knowledge of statutory accounting, taxation and compliance
  • Experience of implementing robust financial controls, processes and procedures
  • Previous management/supervisory experience in a financial environment
  • Experience and knowledge in the production of financial statements from a trial balance is essential, together with an understanding of the importance of the systems and processes required to operate an efficient finance department
  • Strong organisational and analytic skills and attention to detail
  • Strong communication skills
  • A passion for delivering exceptional levels of service
  • Proficiency with computers and computer programs, including Microsoft Office

Salary:                  £40,000 - £45,000 (depending on experience)

 

Pension:                Employee 3%, Employer 5%

 

Working hours:      9:00am-5:30pm

 

Bonus:                  Based on company performance
