Edinburgh Airport is Scotland’s busiest and UK’s 6th busiest airport with more than 30 airlines serving more than 200 routes worldwide. It was the second successive year where the airport added more than 1 million passengers and illustrates the success of its commercial strategy and position as one of the UK’s fastest growing airports.

From a broader perspective, studies show that the airport contributes almost £1 billion to the Scottish economy every year and supports more than 23,000 jobs across Scotland.

 

The Opportunity

The Commercial team at Edinburgh Airport is responsible for revenue generation which equates to approximately £200m each year. The team consists of the following functions:

  • Retail – including all shops, restaurants & bars as well as Car Rental and Commercial Transport
  • Property
  • Car Parking
  • Aeronautical – charging carriers based on time spent on the runway, number of passengers and size of the aircraft

This position plays a pivotal role within the Airport and reports to the Senior Finance Business Partner. The finance team at Edinburgh Airport have spent a considerable amount of time building processes, management reporting and relationships with stakeholders to effectively manage the finances of the commercial team. The Senior Finance Business Partner is looking to appoint an individual who will build upon the positive progress they have made, continuing to shape and develop the finance offering in a way that will add the most value.

This is a hands-on analytical finance role involved in identifying key financial trends, providing insight into commercial opportunities, supporting on capital business cases and helping to shape the future direction of the business through sound and insightful financial analysis. Furthermore, it is an extremely visible role that will require an individual of the highest calibre to interact with the Airport’s Leadership Teams.

To ensure this individual is focusing on the “value-add”, a management accountant will assist with the month-end process and other tasks. This enables the Business Partner to spend a large proportion of their time with the various stakeholders and to take on additional responsibilities such as supporting business cases and the five-year strategic plan.

Job Description

The role will involve:

  • Building strong relationships with key members of Commercial team and other key partners across the business
  • Monitoring performance vs budget and last year and working with Commercial team to ensure targets are met
  • Supporting Commercial team with capital investment appraisals, from inception to completion
  • Providing support during the budget and forecast process for the cost centre managers
  • Preparation of month end, including preparation of management accounts and meaningful commentary of any key variances
  • Managing and reporting on channel towards ‘stretch’ budget, including highlighting opportunities, identifying blockers and supporting to remove them

 

The Successful Candidate

A leading member of the finance team, this is a role requiring an a qualified accountant with commitment, drive and ambition. This role will directly impact the commercial strategy of Edinburgh Airport so will not only require strong commercial acumen but the ability to digest and understand complex ideas.

The successful candidate will primarily support the senior members of the Commercial team and it is therefore essential the candidate can build relationships with and influence key stakeholders. The success of these relationships will depend on your ability to tailor your approach to fit each stakeholder you interact with.

 

Remuneration

The salary on offer will vary depending on experience. The package on offer is competitive and includes a discretionary bonus, generous employer pension contribution and other perks.
