Description

The Opportunity

This is a new role in a recently formed national team which has corporate tax compliance specialist teams working across four main regional hubs.  The focus of the Hub Teams is to support the firm nationally by managing all the corporate tax compliance concerns of clients ranging from OMBs to large international groups in a way that is efficient, consistent with best practice and provides value for money.

This is not a back office team like many large firm compliance centres have become.  Working in this team means having the opportunity to manage a portfolio of business clients’ matters thereby engaging with them.

The firm is now looking to strengthen their leadership team by appointing a Manager/Leader in the Manchester office.  Reporting to a Senior Manager in Leeds and managing a team of four seniors and trainees, the role will involve being a technical reviewer as well as motivating and developing the team to achieve targets and meet client expectations.

Key duties and responsibilities:

Technical

  • Liaising with client and the audit and accounting teams to organise year end site visits, reporting deadlines and being efficient in the provision of information
  • Reviewing tax computations prepared by junior members of the team
  • Reviewing current and deferred tax calculations (including listed companies, under IFRS, and under FRS102) using Alphatax and producing accounts disclosures including consolidated tax notes
  • Reviewing other Compliance work including CT61s and applications for Certificates of Residence
  • Ensuring WIP analysis and billing are kept up to date
  • Ensuring compliance status tracker is kept up to date
  • Sending out computations and returns for signature, and ensuring they are submitted on time
  • Sending payment reminders 6 weeks prior to when any liabilities are due
  • Ensuring client queries are responded to efficiently
  • Ensure files are of an appropriate standard for QCR purposes
  • Liaising with HMRC regarding various issues relating to corporate tax compliance
  • Maintaining up to date technical knowledge

People / Team Management

  • Being responsible for the annual and interim appraisals for these individuals
  • Being responsible for their personal development
  • Providing constructive feedback on an ongoing basis

Other:

  • Assist managers and partners of Tax Advisory with identifying specific advisory issues to consider e.g. R & D claims, internationally mobile employees, transfer pricing projects etc.

Candidate profile

We are looking for a qualified tax accountant (ACA/ACCA/ATT/CTA) with extensive experience of corporate tax compliance services, ideally using Alphatax as primary software.  You should be able to demonstrate broad and strong technical knowledge and be interested in process improvement and technological advancements in the tax profession e.g analytics, data management.  You will be a team player with the ability to manage and motivate teams and enjoy developing and delivering project plans with your team.

The firm

This firm is all about people – they believe that each individual makes a difference to the culture. The firm is an equal opportunities employer and all applications received by the firm will be considered by the firm on the basis of their merit alone and they welcome applications from all suitably qualified individuals regardless of background. All offers of employment will be conditional on the candidate having/securing the right to work in the UK and providing the firm with evidence of that right (as required by the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006) prior to employment commencing.

What’s on offer

Market benchmarked basic salary + up to 20% bonus, employer matched pension contribution, 3 x salary life assurance, private health car + flex cash allowance for additional benefits.  Generous holiday entitlement.
